Yes, you do need to prewash your nappies! 👀 Here’s the method: Soak in water for 24-48 hours followed by a machine wash with detergent (never use fabric softener, this will do the opposite and make your nappies less absorbent). Alternatively, you can wash 3-5 times at max 60°c, but this is obviously less energy efficient. 🫧 The reality is that cloth nappies need time and washing to build absorption, just like a new tea towel that’s not that great when you first bring it home from the shops. I often think the key to success with reusable nappies is sorting your wash routine early on- it’s really simple: 💧 every 2 days load your machine 3/4 full 💧 run a cold rinse (or short cold cycle if you have no rinse setting) keep the spin less than 1000 💧 run a hot long wash with the correct powder dose for heavy soiling (60°C if under 3 months or more than one child in cloth).
